JETT: Java Engagement for Teacher Training

August 4-6, 2005 Conway, Arkansas

This three-day workshop is designed for high school teachers of computer programming! The computer science faculty of Hendrix College will facilitate this opportunity for you to:

Discuss new ideas about teaching computer programming.

Deepen your understanding of the AP Computer Science curriculum.

See and experience interesting assignments.

Meet other high school teachers in the region.

When: The workshop has two overlapping halves. Participants may attend either or both.

Who: All high school teachers interested in teaching computer programming are invited. Teaching an Advanced Placement class is not required. You should, however, already be comfortable with programming in some language such as Basic, Pascal, or C++. Participation is restricted to the first 15 registrants.

The workshop is organized and taught by Hendrix computer science professors Carl Burch, Dwayne Collins, and Gabriel Ferrer. Our AP experience comes from facilitating previous workshops and from following the AP curriculum closely in our own introductory courses.

Where: The workshop will occur in Hendrix College's computer science facilities in J. H. Reynolds Hall. The college campus is in Conway, Arkansas, 30 minutes north of Little Rock on I-40. We will be happy to arrange transportation to and from Little Rock National Airport (LIT).

Requirements: The registration fee is $60 for the entire workshop, or $50 for just one half. The fee covers copies, lodging for both nights, and all meal expenses.

Participants will be housed in one of the college's newest facilities (called ``The Houses''). The rooms are nicely furnished, inexpensive (no extra charge), and nearby; but they do not include bed dressings, such as blankets and pillows. If there are many participants, a few may be assigned to share a room.
